Vitamin D Report

Yesterday I went on a whale-watching and snorkelling trip aboard a trimaran to the Marietas Islands.

There were only 20 or so on a boat that could hold 60, so it did not feel crowded. Had 8 people celebrating tuning thirty this year, which made for a fun trip. They brought a great playlist of music and kept the rest of us entertained.

We saw at least two types of whales, and I have posed pix on a new Salulita Photo Album site, which I will keep updated, and post a permanent link here and on my main website.

Here is a preview of one of the whales
We sailed out to a small island off the coast that has been designated a bird sanctuary, and spotted some Blue Footed Boobies, the only other place they nest is the Galapagos Islands.

We had a group of people on board who were all celebrating tuning 30 this year. They brought a great music playlist and kept the rest of us entertained for the trip.

Surf Report

Well I managed to stand up on my board with my first lesson. Baby waves at the edge of the bay so we were out of the way of the real surfers. The instructor was 16, looked 12 and surfed like he was born with a board attached to his feet.

I am tired and hooked. Will be down there now most days until I can at least edge a little closer to the real surfers without being insulted.

Sayulita has to be the perfect place for this, with a long curved bay and steady waves that are perfect for beginners and a little more advanced. Since I am on my own here I may not be able to get a photo to show you until Sue gets here. Hopefully by then I may be able to stand up long enough for a shot.

Meanwhile here is what I hope to look like.

Casa Juanita

This is my balcony at Casa Juainita.

Am watching the sun go down and the heat leave the day drinking some cerveza I hauled up the hill to this wonderful casa. Tomorrow I start exploring.

Arrived in Sayulita

Just a quick note for all those who were concerned for me coming to Mexico. Have arrived and Sayulita seems charming and hot, and haven't bumped into any drug-lords yet. More to follow after some cerveza.

On my way...

Today is the official start of my Sabbatical Year and I am checked in at YVR waiting for the Westjet flight to Puerto Vahalla at 7.10am. From there I get the bus north to a little village on the coast called Sayulita. This is supposed to be the safest place in Mexico.

I am booked for five weeks at Casa Juanita, the first half in the 2nd floor apartment, and the last half on th top floor with the rooftop deck, when Sue will join me for 10 days.  More when I get there. The plan is to enjoy the sun and maybe even learn to surf. Stay tuned for progress reports.

For my tech-head friends, I got a ASUS Zenbook to travel with, it weighs nothing, the battery lasts forever and it really does start instantly when you open the lid.
